1. Quick Shade Solutions: Tarps and Simple Structures

When your pasture doesn’t have enough trees or your dog run gets hammered by afternoon sun, getting some artificial shade up should be your first move. Here are a couple of our recommended methods: 

Heavy-Duty Tarps:
You really don’t need to start a major construction project to block out the sun. Just grab a silver or green heavy-duty tarp and stretch it over some metal corral panels or wooden frame, and boom! You’ve got yourself a wind-resistant sun blocker. Using a silver tarp is particularly effective because it bounces UV rays back instead of soaking them up.

Canopies and Basic Shelters:
A straightforward, open-sided canopy lets your horses, sheep, or goats escape brutal direct sunlight while still catching any breeze that comes through.

Answer Man Tip: Make sure you’ve got enough height on your shade structures so air can move around underneath. Trust me, if that tarp sits too close to the ground, you’ll end up trapping heat instead!
